Residential
The project
A very small studio flat, with an unused double-height space overhead. The whole home came from there.
The void above was taken up by a mezzanine, and the bedroom moved up there. Downstairs stayed what calls for continuity — living room, dining, kitchen — and the usable floor area grew without moving a single wall.
The mezzanine rests on the central block of bathroom and hallway, the only part of the apartment that already had a ceiling, and is reached by an open staircase rising from the living room to the head of the bed. The structure remains declared and light: painted steel beams topped with wooden boards, and a tempered-glass balustrade that protects without closing off the view.
A false ceiling gathers the spotlights that light the space below. The wardrobe takes up the whole wall of the mezzanine, and its sliding doors carry the skyline of a metropolis: the only decorative gesture, and the one that gives the room its character.
