The studio follows all the phases of a work, not just one. It can be entrusted with a piece — the design, the building site, a permit — or with the whole path: in the second case there are no handovers, and nobody can blame whoever came before.
From the analysis of the site and its constraints through to the construction drawings, by way of the preliminary and detailed designs. It is the phase in which everything is decided: the orientation, the views, the relationship with what is already around.
A home does not end with its walls. Layout of the spaces, natural and artificial light, materials, furniture designed for the room it will go in: a studio flat gains a whole bedroom if one works on the height instead of the plan.
Subdivision plans, regeneration plans for disused areas, requalification of industrial and craft areas. At the scale of the plan one decides where people pass, not just where the buildings stand.
The building site followed by those who drew the design. Checking what is being built, controlling the timing and the quality of execution, a direct relationship with contractors and suppliers.
Safety coordination in the design phase and in the construction phase, with the plans and checks the law requires of anyone opening a building site.
Bills of quantities, specifications and cost estimates from the very first choices, so that the budget is a given of the project and not a surprise halfway through the works.
The authorisations and the dealings with municipal offices and public bodies: permits, notifications, occupancy certificates. A part of the work the client does not see, and which sets the timing of everything else.
The relationship does not end at handover: a building needs a maintenance programme to stay as it was conceived, and that programme is written while the design is still fresh.
The practice supports developers and investors in the agrivoltaic and renewable energy sector with the skills of architecture and planning: site suitability in terms of planning, constraints and landscape, visual integration and mitigation studies, design of ancillary works — substations, access roads, fencing, vegetation buffers — and integration with farming activities. It prepares the landscape and environmental documentation for permitting, manages the dialogue with public bodies, heritage authorities and local communities, and handles relations with landowners, from cadastral surveys to the definition of available land.
Masserie, the fortified farmsteads of southern Italy, are complete works of architecture: the enclosed courtyard, the loggia, the oil mill or wine press, the cistern, the dry-stone walls that draw the countryside around them. The practice restores them for residential and hospitality use, in Sicily, in Puglia and wherever this way of inhabiting the land has left a building to bring back to life, with a single point of contact for every stage: reading the building and its constraints, planning and landscape checks, architectural and interior design, permits, site supervision and the occupancy certificate, through to the operating licences for anyone opening a hospitality business.
The first meeting serves to understand what is really needed: the site, the budget, the timing, the constraints. From there one defines which phases to entrust to the studio and on what schedule. For complex interventions the studio relies on specialist consultants, remaining the client’s single point of reference.
